Desktop
Niri, Noctalia and its greeter, PipeWire, fonts, GTK, Nautilus, and desktop applications at the system level.
These modules are bundled by the desktop profile. They set up the system side of the desktop; the matching Home Manager modules configure the user side.
Niri
niri.nix enables the Niri compositor and installs xwayland-satellite, which
gives X11 applications an Xwayland server on demand. Niri's user service does
not inherit the default PATH, so the session uses the user's own environment.
The configuration itself is written by the Niri Home Manager
module.
Noctalia
noctalia.nix imports the Noctalia NixOS module, enables the shell with its
recommended services, and installs libnotify. See the
Noctalia Home Manager module for its settings.
noctalia-greeter.nix enables the Noctalia Greeter as the login screen, with
Niri as the default session and an output scale of 1.
PipeWire
pipewire.nix enables PipeWire with ALSA (including 32-bit applications, for
games) and PulseAudio compatibility.
Fonts
fonts.nix installs Noto, Noto CJK, and Noto Color Emoji as system fallbacks
and configures fontconfig: slight hinting, greyscale anti-aliasing, and the
shared sans and monospace families from the
settings first in their default lists.
The 0xProto families themselves come from the Home Manager desktop profile.
GTK
gtk.nix applies one GTK appearance for GTK 3, GTK 4, and dconf: the theme
named by the active theme family (Adwaita dark for Meowsoot, the locally
packaged Kanagawa theme for Kanagawa), the Fluent dark icon theme, a dark
preference, and the shared sans font at 11 pt. Fluent and Papirus icon themes
are installed.
Nautilus
nautilus.nix installs Nautilus with nautilus-python, enables GVfs (trash,
mounts, and network locations), points Nautilus at the system extension
directory, and makes it the default handler for folders. The context-menu
actions are added by the Home Manager module.
Multimedia and archives
multimedia.nix installs imv and mpv system-wide. archives.nix installs 7-Zip
(7zz).
1Password
1password.nix enables the 1Password CLI and desktop application, with
cbrst as a polkit policy owner so the app can unlock the CLI and SSH agent
with system authentication.
